About antique diamond jewelry
Antique diamonds have a beauty all their own. Cut by hand before modern machinery, old mine, old European and rose cut diamonds have a softer, broader sparkle than modern stones, with big flashes of light that glow by candlelight. This collection brings together all our diamond jewelry: rings, pendants, earrings, brooches and stick pins.
The antique cuts
The rose cut, with a flat base and a domed top of triangular facets, was popular from the 1500s into the Victorian era. The old mine cut is cushion-shaped, with a high crown and an open culet, typical of Georgian and Victorian jewelry. The old European cut is round and more symmetrical, the diamond of the late Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco eras. Learn more in our guide to old mine and old European cuts.
Questions
Why choose an antique diamond?
Each one is unique, cut by hand over a century ago, and already in existence, so no new mining is needed.
Do antique diamonds come with reports?
Some do, and we share every report we have. Every diamond is examined by Tiffany, a GIA-certified diamond grader, and described honestly.
Are antique diamonds less sparkly?
They sparkle differently, with broader, softer flashes rather than the glitter of a modern brilliant. Many people find them more romantic.
