The Beauty of Pearls and How to Care for Them

Pearls are a timeless classic, they have a unique beauty that is both elegant and sophisticated, and they have been used to create stunning pieces of jewellery for generations.

Types of Pearls
There are several different types of pearls. Natural pearls form in mollusks due to an irritant entering their shells, while cultured pearls are grown intentionally by pearl farmers. Freshwater pearls are grown in lakes, rivers, and ponds, while saltwater pearls are grown in the ocean. Imitation and faux-pearls are made from materials such as glass or plastic.

Caring for Your Pearls
Pearl jewellery should be handled with care, as it is easy to scratch or damage the delicate surface. When not wearing your pearl jewellery, store it away from direct sunlight or other sources of heat, as UV rays can cause them to fade over time. You should also store your pearl jewellery separately from other pieces so the surface does not get scratched.

To clean pearls it is best to use a soft cloth dampened with warm water to wipe away dust particles and dirt buildup on your pearls—never use harsh chemicals as this can damage the surface of the gemstone. If necessary, you can use a mild soap solution (diluted in lukewarm water) to remove more stubborn dirt buildup from your pearl jewellery. Allow it to air dry completely before storing it away again.

Pearl jewelry is an investment that can last for generations if it is cared for properly. This simple guideline should ensure your pearl pieces remains beautiful and lustrous for generations to come.
