Antique 1880s Victorian Paste Heart Pendant Necklace
Descripción
This exquisite Victorian heart pendant is set with three larger clear paste stones surrounded by a halo of smaller pastes, all beautifully mounted in warm-toned brass. The stones are housed in closed-back settings, typical of the 19th century, which create a deeper, reflective brilliance across the surface of the heart.
Paste is a type of early imitation gemstone made from highly polished glass, specially cut and often foiled at the back to enhance its sparkle. In the 18th and 19th centuries, paste jewellery was prized for its beauty and craftsmanship—not merely seen as a substitute, but admired in its own right.
The pendant likely dates to the c.1880s, showcasing the romanticism and fine detail characteristic of Victorian jewellery. It now hangs from a newly added 9ct yellow gold chain, ready to be worn and treasured once again.
