Antique 1900 Purple Guilloché Enamel Silver Chatelaine Mirror Necklace
Description
This elegant antique chatelaine mirror dates to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period, when personal grooming items were worn at the waist as both fashion and function. Crafted in silver and detailed with exquisite purple guilloché enamel, the surface reveals a delicate engine-turned sunburst pattern beneath the richly coloured translucent enamel.
The back features a working bevelled mirror, framed in engraved silver with a decorative handle and original suspension loop. This style of mirror was commonly worn on a chatelaine chain, offering a refined and portable vanity tool for the fashionable woman of the era.
Although the piece is stamped “925”, this mark was not standard in British hallmarking until later in the 20th century. It is likely a continental or export-standard piece, or may have been reframed or repaired post-1950 with the mark added later. Stylistically and materially, it aligns with mirrors made between c.1890 and 1910.
