Antique Victorian Silver Locket Necklace
Description
This sterling silver oval locket is a finely made example of late Victorian to early Edwardian silverwork, characterised by its crisp hand-engraved decoration and solid construction. The front is richly detailed with layered borders and a central engraved floral motif, framed by repeating geometric elements that give the piece depth and visual weight, while the reverse is smooth and softly domed.
Although the full hallmarks have worn with age, the surviving maker’s mark and the overall construction allow this locket to be confidently dated to the late 19th to early 20th century. Lockets of this form were traditionally worn close to the heart, often containing photographs or mementos, and remain enduringly wearable today as meaningful personal jewellery.
