About our antique and vintage brooches
Brooches were among the most important pieces in a Victorian or Edwardian jewelry box, worn on lapels, collars, hats and sashes. Today they're enjoying a revival, and they're one of the most affordable ways to own a genuinely fine antique piece.
Styles to look for
Bar brooches are long, slim pins, often set with a row of stones or pearls, and were especially popular in the Edwardian era. Cameos were carved from shell or hardstone, often depicting classical figures. Mourning brooches in jet, black enamel or hairwork were worn in remembrance. Stick pins, once worn in a cravat, look wonderful on a lapel or scarf today.
Wearing a brooch today
Try a brooch on a coat lapel, a blazer, a scarf, a hat band or a handbag strap. Clustering two or three small brooches together is a lovely modern way to wear them. Some antique brooches also have loops to be worn as pendants.
Questions
Are antique brooch pins secure?
We check every pin and catch before a piece is listed. Many antique brooches have a simple C-clasp, and some have been fitted with a safety catch, which we'll note in the description.
Can a brooch be converted into a pendant?
Often, yes. Contact us and we can advise.
Do brooches make good gifts?
