Vintage 1940s Sterling Silver Albert Watch Chain Necklace
Description
This beautifully crafted vintage Albert watch chain is made from solid sterling silver, featuring individually handmade curb links—each stamped with the lion passant, the mark of sterling quality. Traditionally worn by Victorian and Edwardian gentlemen to secure their pocket watches, Albert chains became a staple of classic dress after being popularised by Prince Albert, the consort of Queen Victoria.
The piece is fitted with a bold bolt ring clasp and a traditional T-bar, both hallmarked. The T-bar bears the mark HB&S for Herbert Bushell & Son Ltd of Northampton Street, Birmingham, alongside the lion passant, Birmingham anchor, and the date letter ‘S’ for 1942.
Today, these chains are beloved for their versatility and elegant design. This one can be worn as a striking necklace and is perfect for suspending charms, pendants, or antique fobs. Albert chains are especially popular for weddings, often worn by grooms as a meaningful accessory that blends vintage sophistication with modern ceremony style.
