Antique c.1880s Victorian Garnet Cluster Brooch
Description
This exquisite Victorian brooch is a radiant example of 19th-century Bohemian garnet jewellery, featuring dozens of rose-cut garnets arranged in concentric tiers around a domed centre. The vibrant, deep red stones are foil-backed to intensify their glow, catching the light with every movement.
The brooch is crafted in garnet gold — a low-carat gold alloy (around 8% gold) traditionally used in Bohemian garnet jewellery of the period. This warm-toned metal was designed to complement the rich crimson hue of the garnets while keeping pieces lightweight and accessible.
A teardrop garnet drop adds graceful movement to the piece, making it ideal for formal wear or as a striking collector’s item. Its tiered construction and intricate setting are hallmarks of c.1880s Bohemian design, beloved for its drama and romance.
