Vintage 1920s Art Deco Egyptian Revival Lion Head Bangle Bracelet
Description
Vintage 1920s silver gilt bangle featuring two Lion heads on a twisted bangle. The bracelet could easily be from the Victorian era although it is most likely from the 1920s. The bangle has been made from silver gilt which is silver covered by a layer of gold.
HISTORY
During the 1920s the demand for Egypian designs boomed from the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922. The European interest in Egypian style jewellery began in the late 1700s when Napoleon's military went to Northern Africa. The British fell for Egyptian styling after the 1798 Battle of the Nile.
MEASUREMENTS
The bangle measures 6.5cm / 2.5" in diameter. The lion head is 1.6cm / 0.6" in length and 1cm / 0.3" in height.
CONDITION
The bangle is in excellent vintage condition.
