Vintage 1980s Heavy Gold Plated Chain Necklace

Vintage 1980s designer necklace crafted by jewellery fashion house 'Monet'. The necklace features graduated gold plated round chain links. The clasp is stamped with the designers mark 'Monet ©' indicating the piece was made after 1955. Monet pieces are excellent quality due to the triple-gold plated finish.
The necklace is long and sits around the waist area, although it could be doubled easily around the necklace to create a shorter necklace.
ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Monocraft was founded by Jay and Michael Chernow in 1929, where they capitalised on monogramming. They launched Monet in 1937 with jewellery designer Edmund Mario Granville from Cartier. Monet evolved into one of the leading costume jewellers and designers in the 1940's. Monet's classic designs were made in silver and gold tone metals with the addition of crystals. They were renowned for created a more comfortable clip-on earring appealing to women of the post war era. Monet also produced jewellery for Yves Saint Laurent and Christian Lacroix during the 1980's and it remains popular today.
