Description

Antique 1910 Fabergé puddingstone egg pendant. The outside of the egg is cold and smooth with a rose gold setting. On the ring of the setting, there are a number of makers mark indicating the piece was made by the House of Fabergé.

 

The first mark is a 'K' with a circle and line which is KF in Cyrillic. The second mark shows St Petersburg's city coat of arms of crossed anchors and sceptre dating back to pre-1899. These two hallmarks

 

The great success of Fabergé meant that works were copied from very early on. Please note we can not guarantee this egg is a genuine Fabergé or an early copy. The egg is excellent in quality with an interesting past. 

 

HISTORY

Carl Faberge produced the first egg for the Czar Alexander III of Russia, he was the father of Nicholas II and grandfather of Anastasia and this was given to his wife at Easter in 1885. Carl Faberge continued to make together with his craftsmen another fifty eggs for the Russian family.

 

Faberge made at least another twelve eggs for other wealthy people, all exquisite designs.

 

When the revolution came and Czar Nicholas was executed along with his family in July 1918, the worked of Carl Faberge and his craftsmen ended. He fled to Switzerland and died in 1920.

 

Forty two eggs remain, some in museums or owned by the Kremlin. Private collectors still want to own the famous eggs,  The Rothschild egg was found recently found and sold for 16.5 dollars, in Novemeber 2007.

 

The Faberge family still produce beautiful eggs today.

 

MEASUREMENTS

The egg measures 3.1cm / 1.2" in height and 1.6cm / 0.6" in width. The pendant hangs from a new 18" 9ct rose gold chain.
