Antique Edwardian 1900 Silver 'Etrog' Jewish Box
Description
Antique Edwardian 1900 silver trinket box. This beautiful box features delicate swirls on the bottom and the top with a flower-shaped handle. The interior of the box is silver gilt with the hallmark '800 AG', which means the piece is .800 parts silver. The box is from Germany around the turn of the century.
We believe this piece was used as a 'Etrog box', a small fruit similar to a lemon was stored in the box to protect it. This ritual is used by the Jewish people during the week long holiday of Sukkot. These boxes are often given as wedding gifts.
