Our Antique Edwardian 1908 silver Vesta case is a unique way to treasure memories forever, named after the Roman goddess of fire and hearth. This piece is handmade from sterling silver, an exquisite box featuring elaborate engravings. Style this piece on a heavy gold or silver chain, the pendant is lightweight and secure, opening up to reveal a sizable space for treasured keepsakes that can be taken anywhere.
This treasure has its beginnings in the 1830s when friction matches were first introduced. A ridged area was crafted at the bottom of the case so that the striking of matches would be made easy even in wet or damp conditions. To ensure efficient use and optimal safety, these small yet incredibly fashionable matchsafe boxes became an essential part of dress code in both the Victorian and Edwardian eras.
Today we can use this piece similar to a locket, a collection of pictures, letters, flowers. It is big enough for a number of precious keepsakes.
