14" Necklace - fits just around then like a chocker.

16" Necklace - will fall around the base of the neck similar to a collar. The fall of the necklace will depend on the individual size of the wearers neck.

18" Necklace - will fall below the throat at the collarbone.

20" Necklace - will fall a few inches below the collar bone, this length is perfect for a lower neckline.

22" Necklace - will fall below a standard neckline.

24" Necklace - will fall below a standard neckline..

36" Necklace - will fall bellow the bust.

Description

Antique Georgian velvet choker, featuring a cut steel buckle strung on double sided black velvet ribbon. The necklace is designed to be worn around the neck in a bow. The buckle features faceted and polished steel studs designed to reflect the light. The ribbon is excellent quality.

Cut steel jewellery are made of steel studs that are faceted, they were popular from the 1760s until the late 19th century. Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) a steam engine manufacturer perfected a technique for faceting little steel studs, these studs were used as expensive gem-set alternatives. Under candlelight cut steel reflected the light as if they were diamonds.

MEASUREMENTS

The cut steel buckle measures 2.5cm / 1" in length and 2cm / 0.8" in height. The ribbon measures 99cm / 36" in length and 1.7cm / 0.6".

CONDITION

The buckle is in excellent antique condition and the ribbon is new. The end of the ribbon has been securing sewn.
