Antique Victorian 15ct gold ring, featuring eight seed pearls, a single ruby and ornate swirls along the band. The band is hallmarked '15', '625', Anchor indicating the piece made from 15ct gold and it is British hallmarked in Birmingham.
Producing pieces of jewellery in 15ct was a British standard used in the Commonwealth it was discontinued in 1932 in Britain. Pieces of jewellery in 15ct are quite rare to find.
Seed pearls in the Victorian era represented tears and ruby is the birthstone for July. Ruby is the colour of love, anger, passion and fury. It was believed those who wore rubies were bestowed good fortune, throughout history rubies were worn by emperors and kings. Still to this day we value the gemstone just as highly. The ruby is considered one of the four most precious gemstones in the world alongside Sapphire, Emerald and Diamond.
