Description
This rare and beautifully crafted antique jewellery box dates to the very start of Queen Victoria’s reign in 1837. The domed lid is made of sterling silver, intricately adorned with repoussé floral and foliate designs that swirl in elegant Victorian fashion. The base is formed from hand-cut glass, creating a delicate yet functional piece that once held powders, rouge, or treasured trinkets on a lady’s dressing table.
The lid is fully hallmarked for London, England with the Lion Passant (sterling silver), Leopard Head (London assay mark), and date letter ‘S’ for 1837. The maker’s mark is partially visible: ‘M, ?’.
Today, this compact box makes a charming vessel for rings, earrings, or special keepsakes — an ideal gift for collectors of early Victorian silver and antique vanity items.
