Antique Victorian Banded Agate Anchor Charm Pendant Necklace
Description
Antique Victorian anchor charm set in agate with a ornate gilt mount. The charm is a pale orange with horizontal darker amber bands. The pendant hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain.
In the Victorian era an anchor symbolised hope and steadfastness, the symbol was often accompanied by a heart and cross symbolising 'Faith, Hope & Charity. Faith, Hope & Charity are a group of Christian martyred saints.
Queen Victorian frequented Scotland and her castles, the area became very popular to visit and Scottish dress and jewellery became very fashionable. During the Victorian era the English were riding on trains seeing parts of the country previously inaccessible, consequently souvenir jewellery was very popular and easier to transport.
