Antique Victorian Cut Steel Drop Earrings
Description
Antique Victorian cut steel earrings set into a flower shape. The cut steel drop hang from sterling silver earring wires.
Cut steel jewellery are made of steel studs that are faceted, they were popular from the 1760s until the late 19th century. Matthew Boulton (1728-1809) a steam engine manufacturer perfected a technique for faceting little steel studs, these studs were used as expensive gem-set alternatives. Under candlelight cut steel reflected the light as if they were diamonds.
These earrings were originally buttons, we have taken the pieces and transformed them into beautiful earrings. The earrings have been hand converted in London by Tiffany our skilled in house silversmith.
