Antique Victorian locket featuring a marquise shaped dark red-brown agate stone. The stone is set into an ornate brass locket with stars and strips engraved into the back of the piece. The locket opens to reveals an area for two pictures to be framed. The locket hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain.
The Locket is perhaps the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It has to be the ultimate love token. During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide a picture of a man they admired, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow. Lockets were considered a statement of an intention to marry.
