Antique Victorian Mourning Brass Coffee Bean Locket Necklace
Description
Antique Victorian locket necklace featuring beaded detailing in the centre of the piece. The locket has two sections where a picture can be placed, on one side of the locket is woven hair. The locket hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain.
Mourning jewellery dates back to the 16th century, it became popular in the Victorian era when Prince Albert passed away when Queen Victoria went into mourning. The most interesting pieces of mourning jewellery include hair work, which was not necessarily from the deceased much of the hair was imported from Europe to keep up with demand. It was used to create a connection between a deceased loved one.

The locket measures 2.8cm / 1.1" in height and 2cm / 0.8" in width. The pendant hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain measureing 18" / 45.72cm.
CONDITION
The locket is in good antique condition. The front and back of the locket is slightly worn from age.
