Originally made as a snuff box—a fashionable accessory for storing ground tobacco mixed with scented oils in the 18th and 19th centuries—this highly decorative piece now makes a perfect jewellery or keepsake box.
Papier mâché craftsmanship flourished in England during the late 18th century. Thin layers of paper were built up, lacquered, and baked to create a durable yet lightweight surface, often styled to reflect Japanese decorative influences.
