Antique Victorian 9ct yellow gold locket featuring beautifully engraved flourishes of ivy on the front and the back of the piece. The locket hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain. The piece is 9ct back and front, meaning the interior is not gold although the front and back of the piece is 9ct gold. The locket is very special it has two hand painted portraits with bevelled glass.
The Locket is perhaps the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It has to be the ultimate love token. During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide a picture of a man they admired, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow. Lockets were considered a statement of an intention to marry.

The locket features 3.8cm / 1.5" in height, 2.4cm / 0.9" in width and 0.7mm / 0.3" in thickness. The necklace hangs from a 9ct 18" yellow gold chain.
CONDITION
Very good. The portraits within the locket would be difficult to remove although if somebody did want to personalise the piece pictures could be placed over the top of the picture.
