Antique Victorian Silver & Glass Chatelaine Scent Bottle
Description
A beautiful antique Victorian scent bottle crafted from clear glass with a sterling silver hinged lid. The bottle retains its original tiny glass stopper, which reveals cotton wool inside still faintly scented — a rare survival from the 19th century.
Suspended from a small silver chain, this perfume bottle would originally have hung from a chatelaine — a decorative waist belt with multiple chains designed to hold practical items such as scent bottles, sewing scissors, watches, or keys. In the Victorian era, a well-appointed chatelaine was both a status symbol and a useful accessory for fashionable women.
Despite its age, this piece remains fully functional. The lid closes securely, and the stopper is intact, making it a charming addition to any antique collection or as a decorative vanity piece.
