Antique Victorian Turquoise & Diamond 9ct Gold Mourning Ring
Description
Antique Victorian 9ct gold ring featuring five turquoise gemstones surrounding a diamond. On the back of the ring is a small glass section with woven hair which indicating this would have been a mourning ring.
Mourning jewellery dates back to the 16th century, it became popular in the Victorian era when Prince Albert passed away when Queen Victoria went into mourning. The most interesting pieces of mourning jewellery include hair work, which was not necessarily from the deceased much of the hair was imported from Europe to keep up with demand. It was used to created a connection between a decreased loved one.

The setting of the ring measures 0.7cm / 0.2" in diameter. The band of the ring measures 1.6cm in height.
