Antique Victorian 9ct yellow gold ring featuring rows of round seed pearls and turquoise. The ring has an open back setting, a beautiful design feature for this ring. The ring is hallmarked 9ct on the inside of the band.
In the mid-century, the subject of gem-lore became very popular. For the Victorian's a turquoise gemstone was thought to preserve sight and protect from injury. Even today in the north-east, there is a proverb stating 'That a Turquoise given by a loving hand carries with it happiness and good fortune'. Additionally, pearls had multiple meanings, primarily they were associated with 'beauty'.
