Antique Victorian 0.2ct diamond yellow gold brooch. This stunning brooch features a large old mine cut diamond in a gypsy set. The brooch is decorated with a star etching around the diamond and gold balls. The gold balls were a popular design feature in Victorian jewellery. The back of the brooch has an open backed setting allowing light to pass through the diamond adding to its brilliance.
Old mine cut diamonds are one of a kind prizes pieces, they are the great grandfather of modern day brilliant cut diamonds. This diamond would have been hand cut.
The brooch secures with an open 'c' clasp, it is in excellent antique condition, measuring 1.9cm in diameter, the central diamond measures 0.3cm in diameter.
