Vintage 1880 'Alice' Brooch
Description
Vintage Victorian silver Alice name brooch c1880s. An etched and peirced pretty Alice name brooch with cut out and engraved decoration. This brooch has the box and ball pattern around the edge with flowers and birds in the centre typical of this period. The brooch fastens with a pin and rollover clasp and measures 3.5cms in diameter. There is slight damage to one of the box decorations which appears to be pushed in, but this does not detract from the brooch. Name brooches started as staff name badges in large country houses and then became popular as sweetheart tokens in the 1880s and 1890s. The brooch has a stirling silver hallmark and it is in good vintage condition.
