Vintage 1880 Whitby Jet Brooch
Description
Vintage Victorian antique Whitby jet brooch c1880s. A circular carved and polished jet morning brooch, with a central facetted bead, fastening with a open 'c' clasp and pin. Jet became popular after the death of Prince Albert in 1861 and worn by Queen Victoria whilst in morning. Jet is a fossilised wood and during the Victorian era, the main centre of production was in Whitby. This brooch is is good vintage condition and measures 2.5cms in diameter.
