Agate jewellery was made very popular by Queen Victoria because of her interest in Scotland when purchasing the Balmoral estate. Queen Victorian frequented Scotland and her castles, the area became very popular to visit and Scottish dress and jewellery became very fashionable. During the Victorian era the English were riding on trains seeing parts of the country previously inaccessible, consequently, souvenir jewellery was very popular and easier to transport.
