Vintage 1920's Damascene Shakudo Japanese gold bracelet.
This unusual bracelet depicts Japanese scenes in 24ct gold and sterling silver using a technique called 'Damascening'. This process in the art of inlaying different metals into one another, in this case gold and silver set into an oxidised steel background. This technique has a long history in Japan. This type of jewellery is also known as Shakudo.
We know the piece has 24ct gold inlay because it is indicated in the design marked '24K'.
This bracelet would most likely have been brought back from Japan in the 1920's as a souvenir. The bracelet depicts scenes of mountains, birds, houses, bamboo, butterflies and Mount Fuji. The bracelet is comfortable and secure to wear.
MEASUREMENTS
The bracelet measures 18.5cm / 7.2" in length and 3.1cm / 1.2" in height.
CONDITION
The bracelet is in excellent vintage condition. The piece is missing it's safety chain.
