Vintage 1920's Damascene Shakudo Japanese gold and silver necklace.
This unusual necklace depicts Japanese scenes in gold and silver using a technique called 'Damascening'. This process in the art of inlaying different metals into one another, in this case gold and silver set into an oxidised steel background. This technique has a long history in Japan. This type of jewellery is also known as Shakudo.
The gold would most likely be 15kt or 24kt. The underside of the necklace is brass. On the underside of the piece it has a single letter with the letter 'K'.
This necklace would most likely have been brought back from Japan as a souvenir. The bracelet depicts scenes of mountains, flowers, bamboo houses and Mount Fuji.
MEASUREMENTS
The necklace measures 75cm / 29" in length with a drop of 6.3cm / 2.5". The chain has a width of 0.8cm/ 0.3" and the large round drop is 2.5cm /1" in diameter.
CONDITION
The necklace is in excellent vintage condition.
