Description
Vintage 1920s Chinese rose quartz silver ring. The ring features an oval pastel pink Rose Quartz gemstone. The stone is a smooth cabochon, claw set into a sterling silver mount. The gemstone has unusual inclusions adding more interest to the stone. The ring is most likely to be 1920s Chinese due to its style, it is hallmarked on the shank of the ring although the hallmark or makers mark has worn away due to its age. The band of the ring is split allowing the wearer to alter the size slightly.
HISTORY
Rose quartz beads dating back to 7000 BC have been found in the area once known as Mesopotamia (today’s Iraq). Rose quartz jewellery was known to be crafted by the Assyrians around 800-600 BC. The Assyrians, along with the Romans, might have been the first to use this stone.
People in the earliest recorded times believed in the magical powers of quartz. Ancient Roman, Egyptian, and Greek civilisations used quartz crystals as potent talismans. The Romans used rose quartz as a seal to signify ownership, and Egyptians believed the stone could prevent ageing.
In the Middle Ages, medical practitioners used quartz in their healing potions. Early cultures of the Americas used quartz amulets. Known as the “love stone,” it was said to balance the emotions and to heal anger and disappointment. (Source: GIA)
MEASUREMENTS
The ring measures 1.3cm / 0.5" in width 1.7cm / 0.6" in length and 8.6mm / 0.3" in height. The ring size is Q-S and US size 8 1/2 - 9 1/2.
CONDITION
The ring is in excellent vintage condition.
