Vintage 1930s Silver Lizard Silver Brooch
Description
Vintage Art Deco 1920s silver lizard brooch featuring faceted marcasite stones over the body and legs. This life like brooch is set with bright red eyes. Marcasites are actually Pyrite also known as Fools Gold. It was used in jewellery due to it's ability to catch the light, giving a diamond effect.
Lizard jewellery became very popular in the Victorian era and continued into the 1920s. The Victorians enjoyed novelty pieces which included many different types of animals.
