Vintage 1980s locket set in 9ct yellow gold. This beautiful locket has ornate engravings on the front and back of the piece. The locket opens to reveal a plate area to place a picture and a curved area to place a picture of keepsake.
The locket has a number of marks indicating the piece was hallmarked in 1980 in Sheffield, England.
The Locket is perhaps the most mysterious and alluring pieces of jewellery. Only the wearer knows what secrets lie within the locket. It has to be the ultimate love token. During the Victorian era, young Victorian women would hide a picture of a man they admired, if the man offered up a lock of hair a marriage proposal usually would follow. Lockets were considered a statement of an intention to marry.

The locket measures 3.8cm / 1.5" in height, 1.9cm / 0.7" in width and 0.6cm / 0.2" in thickness. The locket hangs from a new 9ct yellow gold chain measuring 18" / 45.72cm in length.

The locket is in excellent vintage condition, the locket closes with a click.
