In the Victorian era Opals symbolised fidelity and assurance. Opal is the birthstone for October and the stone is also given on the 14th wedding anniversary.
Our ethereal 9ct gold gemstone ring features a central precious opal flanked by two white diamonds. The ring has a number of marks, indicating the piece was hallmarked in 1981 in London, England.
Precious Opals feature an optical phenomenon called 'play of colour'. It describes how white light is bent and split by the tiny silica spheres which make up the opal. The results are the beautiful colours which can be seen on the surface of the gemstone.
