Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Locket Necklace
Description
This oval silver locket is a refined example of late 19th to early 20th century craftsmanship, characterised by its crisp engraving and balanced proportions. The front is decorated with finely engraved foliate and bird motifs, framed by a beaded border and stepped edge detailing, creating a quietly decorative yet restrained design. The reverse is smooth and softly domed, allowing the engraving on the front to remain the focus.
The locket opens to reveal space for two photographs or mementos, retaining its original glass and inner fittings. While no hallmarks remain, the construction, hinge style, and engraved decoration are consistent with continental European silver work of the late Victorian to Edwardian period, likely dating to around 1890–1910. Such lockets were worn daily, often holding portraits of loved ones, making them deeply personal pieces of jewellery.
