About this piece

This exquisite Edwardian-era ring, hallmarked for 1915, showcases a glowing arrangement of opals and old-cut diamonds in a finely detailed gold setting. At its heart, a luminous opal displays flashes of blue, green, and pink, flanked on either side by two old-cut diamonds with a combined weight of approximately 0.43 carats. Two further opals complete the design, creating a harmonious play of color and sparkle across the finger.

The 18K yellow gold mount is richly worked, with openwork shoulders that allow light to pass through, enhancing the brilliance of both diamond and opal. Its elegant proportions and refined craftsmanship reflect the transitional period between Edwardian delicacy and early Art Deco geometry.

In the early 20th century, opals were celebrated for their mystical play of color, believed to inspire creativity, passion, and hope. Diamonds, by contrast, symbolized constancy and eternity, an enduring emblem of love and strength. Together, they represented both the brilliance of imagination and the steadfastness of devotion, making this combination especially prized in romantic jewels of the era.

A romantic jewel alive with history and character, this ring is a true heirloom piece, as radiant today as it was over a century ago.

Tiffany’s note

The opals in this ring flash blue, green and pink as you move, and the old-cut diamonds between them add just the right amount of sparkle. It's an unusual and very romantic engagement ring for someone who wants color and individuality.

Caring for an antique ring

An antique ring has already lasted a century or more, and a little care keeps it that way. Take it off for the gym, gardening, cleaning and swimming. Store it on its own so stones don’t scratch each other. Clean it gently with warm water and a soft brush, and avoid ultrasonic cleaners. Have the claws and setting checked by a jeweler about once a year.
