Vintage 1930s Carnelian Marcasite Silver Ring
Description
Our vintage 1930s ring features faceted marcasite stones set into a ornate pattern surrounding a smooth elongated oval Carnelian semiprecious stone set in sterling silver.
The 'stone' known as Marcasite is actually pyrite. Pyrite is cut into small pointed or rounded facets to create marcasites. Their lustre is metallic and their brilliance comes from light reflecting off of the facets. Marcasites were a fashionable alternative for diamonds as early as the 1700s. Marcasites were fashion in the mid-1800s seeing a revival in the 1920s/30s.
